Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Groundwater Science and Engineering, Hydrology and Water Resources.
(1) Description of Environmental Science
Environmental science builds upon solid foundation of environmental chemistry and incorporates knowledge about mathematics, computers, and relevant contents in geoscience, biology, economics, and legal science. It also studies and demystifies relationship between, as well asthe rules of human society and environment, and combines basic research with applied research, laying a sound foundation to address key environmental issues at present and in the future. Environmental science is among the leading disciplines with a high academic position and influence in similar subjects around the country, under which environmental chemistry, environmental planning and management, ecological rehabilitation and digital management in ecological system have distinct features.

(2) Description of Environmental Engineering
Department of Environmental Engineering of JLU merged with the same department of the former Changchun University of Science and Technology. The Department began its undergraduate program in 1992, obtained approval to confer master’s degree in 1996 and PhD in 2003, and gained authorization to establish a post-doctoral research center on environmental science and engineering as a first-level discipline in the same year. The Experiment Center on Environmental Engineering, covering an areas of 1,600 square meters, is used to train undergraduates majoring in environmental engineering.
The Department has set up a high-quality teaching and research team, undertaking and finishing provincial- and ministerial-level projects, including National High-Tech R&D Program (863 Program), Major Science and Technology Program for Water Pollution Control and Treatment under the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, programs under National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as international cooperation programs. It has been honored with multiple national, provincial-, and ministerial-level awards thanks to a batch of sophisticated scientific research results and pragmatic technologies, some of which are top-notch worldwide.
