College of New Energy and Environment (CNEE) of Jilin University hosted an online seminar on the “3 + 1 + 1” Joint Cultivation Program between CNEE of Jilin University and the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences of University of Birmingham to promote the program on March 29, 2021. Faculties from University of Birmingham, including Ms. Nina Morris, China Institute Officer, Dr. Chris Bradley, Director of Postgraduate Taught Programs of College of Life and Environmental Sciences, Prof. John Tellem, Course Lead of Hydrogeology Master’s Program, and Dr. Sun Simiao, Deputy Head of Global Engagement, participated in the seminar. Dr. Sun Simiao made a detailed introduction to the program. Prof. Dong Jun, Deputy Dean for Global Engagement, Prof. Yang Yuesuo, Department of Groundwater Science and Engineering, Ms. Yang Cheng, Secretary for Global Engagement, and more than 50 undergraduates participated in the online seminar.
The seminar was co-chaired by Ms. Sun Simiao and Ms. Yang Cheng. Prof. Dong Jun expressed his gratitude in his welcome speech for the help and support from University of Birmingham and hoped that the two parties can continue to carry out more in-depth cooperation. Then, Dr. Bradley introduced the graduate program of the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Ms. Morris introduced the requirements and processes to the application of “3+1+1” program in detail. At last, Prof. Tellem and Dr. Sun Simiao introduced the relevant information of undergraduate and master program of hydrogeology. The seminar enabled CNEE students to have better understanding about the joint cultivation program and the study abroad life style in the UK which will effectively promote the development of program.
The “3+1+1” Joint Cultivation Program between CNEE of Jilin University and the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Birmingham is open to undergraduate students majoring in “Groundwater Science and Engineering” and “Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering”. After completing the first three years of undergraduate study in Jilin University, the students who participated in the program would go to University of Birmingham for their fourth year of undergraduate and postgraduate study. At present, the joint cultivation agreement is being reviewed by the University.
