The phenomenon of groundwater pollution is serious in China. According to the data from relevant departments show that, in 118 cities, 64% of the groundwater is seriously polluted and 32% slightly polluted. The pollution situation is extremely serious, so it is urgent to remediate the groundwater pollution. The interface effect of heterogeneous aquifer is the bottleneck problem in aquifer restoration. Facing the major strategic needs of the site, soil, and groundwater pollution prevention and control, we are committed to carrying out scientific research on complex pollution processes of heterogeneous aquifer, lacking remediation technology materials and equipment, and the defects of low-efficiency and high cost.

1. Contaminated Remediation Mechanism-Interface Effect and Enhanced Transport Mechanism of Repairing Agent in Heterogeneous Formation Media.

Interface Effect

l Found the double interface effect of layered interface and lens;

l Explained the mechanism of ‘Circumfluence’;

l Solved the key scientific problem of the effective transmission of the repairing agent in the heterogeneous stratum;

l Developed6repair agents with shear-thinning fluid properties;

l Explained the mechanism of enhanced transport materials;

l Solved the problem of ‘bypass flow’ effectively.

2. In-situ Remediation Technology and Equipment-research and Development of In-situ Integrated Enhanced Remediation Technology, Materials, and Equipment for Multi-phase Combined Pollution.

1) Developed4categories of 15 kinds of in-situ repair material independently.

l Lectron donor slow-release agent;

l Hydroxyl radical slow-release agent;

l Oxygen slow-release agent;

l Mulsifynano iron;

l Ucrose modified nano iron;

l Graphene oxide loaded zero-valent nano iron;

l Arsenic imprinted material;

l Mesoporous silicon supported nano iron;

l GEOnS-m;

l DLMC;

l Itaconic acid Gemini surfactant;

l Brij35 microemulsion;

l Tween80 microemulsion;

l Colloidal two-fluid foam;

l Colloidal microbubble.

2) Constructed 5 sets of enhanced in-situ repair technology and equipment.

The equipment is mainly used in two aspects:

Enhanced Remediation Technology and Its Application in Solubilization /Mobilization of Multiphase Pollutants.

l The solubilization effect is 2-3 orders of magnitude higher than that of clear water;

l Application cost reduced by 30%.

In-situ Enhanced Air Disturbance/Circulation Well Repair Technology and Its Application

l Volatile and semi-volatile contaminants reduced by 80-90%

In the field of interface effect and technical equipment for in-situ enhanced remediation of heterogeneous aquifer pollution, the College has achieved the following achievement:

l 1 Science and Technology Progress Award, Ministry of Education;

l 1 Science and Technology Progress Award, Jilin Province;

l 1 Monograph;

l More than 60 high-level academic papers in EST, WR, and other international journals.
