On August 25, 2021, the Agreement between Jilin University (JLU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) on the 3+1+1 Joint Education Framework (the "Agreement"), which is a postgraduate training agreement between JLU College of New Energy and Environment and NUS Faculty of Engineering, was officially entered into.
The intention of cooperation for this program was reached when Vice President Dong Jun visited NUS in October 2019, followed by preparations such as course information sharing and negotiation on the agreement. The Agreement was considered by the meeting of JLU President’s Office on July 14, 2021 and signed on August 25. So far, the 3+1+1 joint postgraduate training program of JLU College New Energy and Environment and NUS Faculty of Engineering has officially started with work on publicity, enrollment, and preparations already going on.
The program is available to undergraduates of Environmental Engineering in the College, and only those in the first semester of their junior year can apply. Upon approval by NUS, students will go to NUS Department of Civil Engineering for their fourth year of undergraduate study as neither graduating students nor exchange students. After completing the fourth year of undergraduate study, students who meet the relevant graduation requirements of both JLU and NUS will receive an offer of admission to Master of Science (Civil Engineering) from Faculty of Engineering, NUS. Participants will receive an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor's degree from JLU and a master's diploma from NUS.
Applicants should submit their applications to the College in the first semester of their junior year, which will then be submitted to NUS. Students enrolled in the program must have a minimum score of 6.0 in IELTS or 85 in TOEFL (obtained within two years before application) and receive an interview organized by NUS. NUS will submit a confirmed list of participants to the College. For the first year of the program, NUS will admit up to five students. During their fourth year of undergraduate study at NUS, participants are required to meet the requirements of both JLU and NUS and transfer their credits to meet the graduation requirements of the College. To receive the master’s program offer from NUS, students must meet both the graduation requirements of JLU and requirements of NUS for the fourth year of study.
