On November 4, 2021, the Cooperation Agreement between Jilin University (JLU) and the University of Birmingham (the “Agreement”) for the 3+1+1 joint postgraduate training program negotiated by JLU College of New Energy and Environment and the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Birmingham, UK was officially completed and entered into.
The program is available to undergraduates majoring in Groundwater Science and Engineering and Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering, and only those who are in the first semester of their junior year can apply. Upon approval by the University of Birmingham, students will go to the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences of the University of Birmingham for the third year of study (the duration of undergraduate study in the UK is three years). Course credits will be transferred for the fourth year of undergraduate study at JLU. Upon completion of undergraduate study, students who meet the relevant graduation requirements of both JLU and the University of Birmingham will receive an offer of the Hydrogeology MSc taught postgraduate program of the University of Birmingham. Participants will receive an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor's degree from JLU and a master's diploma from the University of Birmingham.
Applicants should submit their applications to the College in the first semester of their junior year, which will then be submitted to the University of Birmingham. Students enrolled in the program must have a GPA not less than 3.0 or an average score not less than 75, and must meet language proficiency requirements, i.e. IELTS: 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any band, or Pearson Test of English (PTE): no less than 51 in all four skills (obtained within 2 years of application). The University of Birmingham will submit a confirmed list of participants to the College.
During their third year of undergraduate study (corresponding to the fourth year at JLU) at the University of Birmingham, participants are required to complete 100 credits (3 professional courses and 1 graduation thesis), and submit an application for a master's degree program before May 26 of the year of enrollment. To receive the master’s program offer from the University of Birmingham, students must meet both the graduation requirements of JLU and the University of Birmingham.
