The Key Laboratory of Groundwater Resources and Environment, Ministry of Education, Jilin University is based in the Northeast area and oriented to China. It makes full use of and integrates groundwater science and engineering, environmental science and engineering and other multidisciplinary advantages to study groundwater resources and environmental and ecological issues related to groundwater. The specific research directions include: sustainable development of groundwater resources; control and remediation of groundwater and soil environmental pollution; groundwater environmental issues related to resource development and waste disposal. The groundwater is studied from the perspectives of resource attribute and environmental attribute, so that groundwater science and engineering discipline and environmental sciences and engineering discipline can be cross-integrated, and interdisciplinary research laboratories are built based on the existing laboratories. Through adjustment and planning, the laboratory has 3030m2 of scientific research rooms, including: 2400m2 of laboratory rooms, 350m2 of scientific research staff studios, 280m2 of academic lecture halls and reference rooms.
The key laboratory has newly built a high temperature and high pressure multiphase flow displacement laboratory, a high temperature and high pressure water-rock-gas interaction laboratory, a numerical simulation laboratory, an ex-situ remediation laboratory, an in-situ remediation laboratory, a nuclear waste geological disposal laboratory, a geothermal energy development and utilization laboratory and the rock sample preparation room. Besides, they are equipped with a number of advanced instruments and equipments, including high temperature and high pressure reactor experiment system, high temperature and high pressure multiphase fluid displacement experiment system, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, ion chromatograph, total organic carbon analyzer, laser particle size distribution analyzer, high performance liquid chromatograph, liquid cascade mass spectrometer, gas chromatograph, GC/MS, microbial identification system, fluorescence quantitative PCR instrument, etc. In order to do better in large-scale numerical simulation calculations, this laboratory is equipped with multi-core large computers and terminal systems.
The Key Laboratory of Groundwater Resources and Environment, Ministry of Education has maintained academic exchanges and cooperation on research with many universities, companies and scientific research institutions at home and abroad. It has also actively organized a variety of international academic conferences, invited famous scholars and professors to give lectures, promoting the development of teaching and scientific research of thelaboratory.
The Key Laboratory of Groundwater Resources and Environment, Ministry of Education will develop and utilize groundwater resources more rationally by leveraging this laboratory, avoid deterioration of the ecological environment, provide scientific and technical support for the control and remediation of water and soil pollution; it will provide a multi-disciplinary cross-platform related to the storage and utilization of underground resources and the study of environmental problems arising from the development of groundwater resources, and provide technical support for China’s economic development and a solution of major scientific issues in social development.
